How well does your country fight this pandemic?

We are already 128 days in this corona situation, started from China and now worldwide appearing at most of the countries in the world. Don't you wonder how well your government is handling the pandemic?

The common strategy to fight the coronavirus pandemic is detection, isolation and social distancing.

Let's see how well they do that.

Detection

We start with detection.

In order to detect where the infected people are, you need to test them. Testing the population started very late during the pandemic. The reason for that is obvious (and embarrassing for the governments involved):

  1. China did not supply with true statistical numbers about their coronavirus problem. With as result, that most of the governments (except South Korea and Taiwan) were not forewarned of the disaster, which came already into their countries unnoticed and spread quickly.

  2. The governments were the ones which panicked, not the populations.

  3. The strange, out of place social behavior, what we all call "political correctness". That political correctness caused an untold damage to many countries, especially the European countries.

  4. Most of the countries were not prepared for pandemics; meaning they did not stock up their emergency resources, not enough medical personnel, not enough hospital beds, not enough medicine, etc.

    1. For many years those countries did not invest enough for medical emergencies.

Whatever the actual and true state is of the medical facilities of many countries, we don't know. But what we know are the results of the medical efforts and the people who are cured from the coronavirus. It's sad.

From the 22 monitored countries, only six countries are 'producing' enough recoveries as is projected. Those countries are China, Spain, Iran, Belgium, Canada and Australia. China and Iran are highly suspect, because of the obvious fabricating of their data.

Germany and Russia are working very hard to fix that.

Overall, all those 22 second countries combined, they are -27% behind the projected numbers of cured people. This little fact has a huge impact on the duration of the pandemic.

Isolation

Common sense is in many cases far away when you take about governments and their 'feel' of their own population. Many ministers and prime ministers and presidents have no contact with anyone of the normal population for many years, even tens of years. They are surrounded by advanced security teams and forbid them contact with the normal population. They have no idea.

About the subject of isolation. Some governments are suggesting isolation, others advising, and others straight applying and enforcing isolation.

To borrow the words of President Trump:

Sometimes the cure is worse then the disease.

The government in Israel for example, simply orders the closure of all none-existential businesses, and even there it cuts the allowed workers with a dull knife and force the people home in isolation. It's like trying to kill a mosquito with a nuclear bomb. If this continues for a couple of weeks, Israel will not have any economy left.

The government of South Korea is handling it different. They didn't close any business, neither they restricted their citizens. They invested time and resource in massive testing and those people who were infected were being isolated, the elderly and other high risk groups of their population were isolated as well and that's it. Results are quickly to notice, because they have their coronavirus infections under control.

Social distancing

You can order a trained dog to do something. As an officer in the army, they can order their men to do things. You can also use a rough tone of voice and you can even scream, all of it is possible and even acceptable.

But you truly can't do such thing with the general population. The "gentlemen and ladies" in the government really need to go back to their parents and let them teach them how to be polite. And in gods name get yourself management training.

If you ask a population to change their behavior during the time of a crisis like this one, that population is open for the suggestions of their government. And only if their government can motivate their populations. This happens in America, Singapore, South Korea and Australia. This does not happen in other countries, where we see bickering governments with contradicting orders and demands, ridiculous political correctness, hardly being able to enforce what they say and the population shows their government contempt and their middle finger.

Personally I think if those governments would simply step down and do nothing, the pandemic would be quicker gone without much problems.
